About the event
This weeks topic is Co-Dependency. Codependency in relationships is when partners/family members become so invested in each other they cannot function independently. It can manifest as one partner/family member is being more passive and dependent, while the other is more dominant and controlling. It can negatively impact both people in the relationship. Some signs of codependency lack of boundaries (completing tasks for the other even if uncomfortable), approval seeking or people pleasing (sacrifice one’s own needs to appease the other often driven by fear or anxiety), low self-esteem (self-deprecating jokes, one sensitive to criticism and shower the other with compliments), neglecting personal interests (drop hobbies to focus on the other’s interests), and avoiding personal feelings (focus on the other so much that they don’t process their own emotions), and/or need for control (one assumes the role of caretaker, offering unsolicited advice and trying to control what the partner thinks, feels…
