The Veteran Safety Net (VSN) progrm is a veteran specific transitional housing program. The VSN program provides a structured therapeutic environment for homeless veterans to overcome substance abuse and homelessness. To participate, a veteran must qualify for enrollment in the Veterans Administration's Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program. Both programs require active duty service of at least 180 days with an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge, a primary diagnosis of substance dependence and a homeless status.
VSN requires applicants possess at least 15 days verifiable abstinence, the capability to pursue employment and the willingness to participate in a 12-step recovery model.
