On Sunday, November 16, 2008, the community gathered to celebrate the dedication of Phelps House, the latest home in our campus of recovery. This home is significant in three very notable ways:
First, the agency, with the help of the community, was able to rescue a beautiful and historic home from a wrecking ball. According to tax records, the home was built in 1923 and, now that it has been restored, it is a showplace.
Secondly, the agency, with the help of the community, was able to gain control over property which adjoins our primary facility. For years the property was home to vagrants and drug dealers who traded openly in front of the men and women coming to Caring Services hoping for a safe and drug free environment. With our new privacy fence we have been able to halt foot traffic across the property as well.
Finally, and most importantly, the agency, with the help of the community, is able to offer six additional beds to women choosing recovery, bringing our total number of beds for women to 22.
This would never have happened without the concern and willingness of Emerywood Baptist Church/Project Cornerstone, volunteers from Caring Services (especially our veterans), Rotary Club of Willow Creek, The Cannon Foundation, and individuals who gave of their time, talents, and offerings.
Please take a moment to tour the home, courtesy of photos by Sam Martin, our wonderful “I.T.” guy.
Donations are still being accepted for Phelps House via Emerywood Baptist Church, 1300 Country Club Drive, High Point, NC 27262, or Caring Services, PO Box 6731, High Point, NC 27262.
Again, many thanks to all who made this possible, and God bless.
